[News] Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development: In 2020, Newly Started Prefabricated Buildings in Shanghai Accounted for as Much as 91.7% of All New Construction!

In accordance with the Notice of the Standard and Quota Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Carrying Out the 2020 Annual Statistics on the Development of Prefabricated Buildings requirements, the Standard and Quota Department of MOHURD collected and compiled statistics on the development of prefabricated buildings reported by various regions. Overall Development

All regions have thoroughly implemented the spirit of the Central Urban Work Conference and the Guiding Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Vigorously Developing Prefabricated Buildings (Guo Ban Fa [2016] No. 71), adhering to the basic principles of market leadership and government promotion, actively formulating policy measures, gradually improving the technical standards system, and effectively promoting the rapid development of prefabricated buildings.

In 2020, across the country, 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps started a total of 630 million m² of prefabricated buildings, an increase of 50% over 2019, accounting for about 20.5% of the newly built floor area, completing the work target set by the Action Plan for Prefabricated Buildings during the 13th Five-Year Plan of reaching over 15% by 2020.


Regional Development

In 2020, the key promotion regions such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Pearl River Delta accounted for 54.6% of the national total of newly started prefabricated buildings, while the active promotion regions and encouraged promotion regions accounted for 45.4%, with the share of key promotion regions further increasing compared with 2019.

Among them, the proportion of newly started prefabricated buildings in Shanghai's newly built buildings was 91.7%, Beijing 40.2%, and Tianjin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Hainan all exceeded 30%.


Development by Structural Type

In terms of structural form, newly started prefabricated concrete structure buildings reached 430 million m², an increase of 59.3% over 2019, accounting for 68.3% of newly started prefabricated buildings; prefabricated steel structure buildings reached 190 million m², an increase of 46% over 2019, accounting for 30.2% of newly started prefabricated buildings.


Among them, newly started prefabricated steel structure residences reached 12.06 million m², an increase of 33% over 2019. Prefabricated steel structure integrated modular buildings have been rapidly promoted.


Industrial Chain Development

With the strengthening of policy drivers and endogenous market momentum, prefabricated building-related industries have developed rapidly. As of 2020, 328 national-level prefabricated building industrial bases and 908 provincial-level industrial bases had been established nationwide.

In the prefabricated building industrial chain, component production and prefabricated interior fit-out have become new highlights. Among them, component production capacity and capacity utilization have further improved, and the annual area of prefabricated interior fit-out increased by 58.7% over 2019.
