Supporting the Continued Deepening of BIM Application: Shanghai Issues Another New Standard!

To promote the continued deepening and development of Building Information Modeling (hereinafter “BIM”) technology application in the city, and to unify BIM application fundamental requirements, the Shanghai Engineering Construction Standard Unified Standard for Application of Building Information Modeling Technology DG/TJ08-2201-2023 has been approved and issued by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and will officially take effect on July 1, 2024. The previous Application Standard for Building Information Modeling DG/TJ08-2201-2016 is simultaneously repealed. Detailed introduction below.

          

Unified Standard for Application of Building Information Modeling Technology


01 Standard Positioning

As a general standard, the Unified Standard for Application of Building Information Modeling Technology can guide the overall framework and provisions of specialized standards, playing a leading role in the city’s BIM standards system. This standard ensures data consistency and reusability within the industry by defining BIM data, and improves BIM application efficiency and effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle by standardizing BIM execution and application.

          

              

          

02 Standard Content

Main technical content of the Unified Standard for Application of Building Information Modeling Technology:

Compared with the Application Standard for Building Information Modeling DG/TJ08-2201-2016, the revisions in this standard are mainly reflected in:

1. The standard framework has been adjusted to strengthen the logical relationships between chapters.

2. The standard content has been updated around the compilation principle of “data is the core, collaboration is the key, models are the carrier, application is the goal,” providing a more comprehensive review and specification of BIM data and execution application.

              

          

          

03 Standard Features

The Unified Standard for Application of Building Information Modeling Technology was compiled around the following principles:

Benchmarking and adopting national standards, referencing and integrating advanced domestic and municipal standards

Addressing practical problems in the application process based on actual BIM usage

Meeting the fundamental BIM technology application needs of all parties based on BIM technology development

Data is the core, collaboration is the key, models are the carrier, application is the goal    

          

          

          

With the gradual promotion and implementation of the Unified Standard for Application of Building Information Modeling Technology DG/TJ08-2201-2023, the city will focus on deepening BIM technology application, exploring the construction of a full-lifecycle BIM construction and O&M management system, upgrading and improving standards and evaluation systems, deepening the integration and innovation of new business models and technologies, and other key tasks to accelerate the digital transformation of buildings and urban infrastructure.
