On August 28, the "2024 Shanghai BIM Technology Application and Development Forum and Release of the 2024 Shanghai Report on the Application and Development of Building Information Modeling Technology" was successfully held, hosted by the Shanghai Green Building Association and the Shanghai Building Information Modeling Technology Application and Promotion Center.The forum released the 2024 Shanghai Report on the Application and Development of Building Information Modeling Technology, compiled by the Shanghai Building Information Modeling Technology Application and Promotion Center under commission from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Shen Honghua, Second-Level Inspector of the Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, unveiled the report, and Ma Yan, Director of the Construction Market Regulation Division of the Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, provided an interpretation of the report.    

In recent years, Shanghai has actively responded to national development policies and implemented the associated goals and requirements, achieving positive progress in the application and development of BIM technology. According to the Report, in 2023 the city had 6,711 newly filed construction projects, of which 1,381 were above-scale projects and 1,170 applied BIM technology, giving a BIM application rate of 94.77% among above-scale projects, with the number of BIM-applying projects up 0.19% on 2022. As the scale and number of BIM-applying projects continue to grow, BIM application is gradually advancing from project-level and enterprise-level use toward regional-level and city-level use. This Report is the ninth since the first edition was published in 2016. It broadens the thinking behind BIM technology application in the city, demonstrates the results of BIM application citywide, helps more practitioners understand BIM, prompts deeper reflection among informed professionals, provides a reference for enterprise BIM capability building, and helps push forward the comprehensive adoption of BIM technology in the city’s construction industry. The Report also identifies existing problems and points to the direction of the next stage of development, providing support for government policy-making.    

   

The 2024 Shanghai Report on the Application and Development of Building Information Modeling Technology was consolidated by Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design and Research General Institute, and jointly compiled by the Commission Administrative Service Center, the Municipal Market Management General Station, the Municipal Safety and Quality Supervision General Station, the Municipal Survey and Design Management Center, the Municipal Housing Development Center, Chengtou Group, China Construction Eighth Engineering Division, Shentong Metro, Jianke Group, Shanghai Construction Group, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd., Arcplus Group, Tongji University, Luban Software, Glodon, Chengtou Highway, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Institute, China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Shanghai Branch, Arcplus Group Shanghai Institute, Urban Construction Information, Hanzhi, China Construction Standard Institute Shanghai Branch, Juyi Technology, Shenkang Infrastructure, Lingang Economic Development, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Geotechnical Investigations Institute, Tianhua and other organizations.
